Getting Started with Skyboot AI Markdown

To set up Skyboot AI Markdown, upload and activate the plugin, then follow the Get cited checklist under AI Markdown > AI Visibility. Most sites are fully set up in about 10 minutes: write a short site summary, run the crawler access test, submit your URLs with IndexNow and scan your content.

What do I need before installing? #

  • WordPress 5.8 or newer
  • PHP 7.2 or newer (PHP 8.x recommended)
  • Pretty permalinks (Settings > Permalinks, anything except “Plain”). See the WordPress guide to customizing permalinks.
  • Optional: the PHP zip extension for ZIP exports and imports

How do I install Skyboot AI Markdown? #

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin and upload the plugin ZIP.
  2. Click Activate.
  3. Open AI Markdown in the admin menu.

On activation the plugin registers its URLs (/llms.txt, /llms-full.txt and /.well-known/api-catalog), adds a small block of cache rules to .htaccess when the server supports it, and creates its analytics table.

What should I do in the first 10 minutes? #

Open AI Markdown > AI Visibility. The Get cited checklist at the top shows what is done and has a button for each open step.

  1. Describe your site for AI. Go to Settings > llms.txt Blockquote Summary and write 1-3 sentences: who you are, what you offer and who it is for. Or click Write with AI to draft it from your pages. AI assistants read this line first.
  2. Run the crawler access test. Click Run test. Every answer-engine crawler (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-SearchBot, Claude-User, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Googlebot and Bingbot) should show Reachable and Allowed. If one is blocked, see AI Visibility.
  3. Submit your URLs with IndexNow. Click Submit. After that, new and updated pages are submitted automatically.
  4. Scan your content. Click Scan. Every published post, page and product gets a Citation Readiness score.
  5. Fix your weakest pages. Under All scored content (lowest scores first), click Fix N issues on a page to see each issue and how to fix it. You can fix one issue at a time or the whole page, with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or your own API key. See Citation Readiness.

If you use Cloudflare or another CDN, purge /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt there after setup.

How do I give my team access? #

By default, editors can view AI Analytics and AI Visibility, fix content and use the AI API key, and authors can fix their own posts. Change this under AI Markdown > Permissions, by role or for one person. See Permissions.

FAQ #

How long does it take to set up Skyboot AI Markdown? #

About 10 minutes for the checklist. Scanning a large site and fixing your weakest pages takes longer, but you can do that over several days.

Do I need an AI API key to use the plugin? #

No. Every feature works without one. A key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini or OpenRouter only lets you generate fixes inside WordPress. Without a key you can fix pages by opening ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity with a ready-made prompt.

Why does AI Analytics show no data after installing? #

AI crawlers have not visited yet, or the site is a local or staging copy that crawlers cannot reach. On a live site the first verified visits usually show up within days to a few weeks. Run the crawler access test to rule out a block.

Does the plugin change my existing pages? #

No. Your HTML pages, theme and SEO plugin output stay the same. The plugin adds Markdown versions and llms.txt next to them, and it only edits a post when you apply a fix yourself.

Will Skyboot AI Markdown slow down my site? #

No. Markdown is generated only when an AI agent asks for it, and then cached. Crawler checks run after the page has been sent, so visitors do not wait.
