# IndexNow Instant Indexing in Skyboot AI Markdown

Skyboot AI Markdown submits your URLs to [IndexNow](https://www.indexnow.org/) the moment you publish, update or delete content. IndexNow is an open protocol that tells search engines a page changed, instead of waiting for them to crawl again. Bing, Yandex, Seznam and Naver use it, and Bing’s index feeds Microsoft Copilot.

## What is submitted automatically?

| Event | Submitted |
| --- | --- |
| A post, page, product or other public content is published | Yes |
| Published content is updated | Yes |
| Published content is moved to the trash | Yes, so engines recrawl it and drop it |
| A category, tag or product category is edited | Yes, the category page |

These are never submitted:

- Drafts
- Password-protected content
- Posts set to noindex in your SEO plugin
- Attachments
- Cart, checkout and account pages
- Content types unticked under **AI Visibility > Settings > Content types**

The block editor can save a post several times per click, so repeat submissions of the same URL within 10 minutes are skipped. All URLs from one request are sent together.

## How do I set up IndexNow in WordPress?

1. IndexNow is on by default (**AI Visibility > Settings > IndexNow instant indexing**).
2. In **AI Visibility > IndexNow**, click **Submit all URLs** once. This sends every indexable post, page, product and store category page, up to 10,000 URLs.

That is all. New and updated content is submitted automatically from then on.

## Where is the IndexNow key file?

IndexNow checks that you own the site with a key file. The plugin creates a random key and serves it at `https://your-site.com/<key>.txt`. You can open it from the IndexNow panel. You do not need to upload anything.

## What do the IndexNow results mean?

The IndexNow panel lists the last submissions and their result:

| Result | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| OK / Accepted | The URLs were received |
| Accepted: key validation pending | Normal for the first submissions |
| Forbidden | The key file cannot be reached. Check that your firewall or CDN does not block `/<key>.txt` |
| Unprocessable | The URLs do not belong to this host. Check your WordPress Address setting |
| Too many requests | Wait and try again later |

Automatic submissions are sent in the background and show as **Sent**.

## Does IndexNow run on local and staging sites?

No. Submissions are skipped when the site address is `localhost`, `127.0.0.1` or ends in `.local`, `.localhost`, `.test`, `.example` or `.invalid`, and when the WordPress environment type is `local` or `development`. A copy of your site never submits URLs.

## FAQ

### Does Google support IndexNow?

No. Google does not use IndexNow. Google finds changes through your XML sitemap and normal crawling, so keep your sitemap active in your SEO plugin.

### Does IndexNow help with ChatGPT search?

Indirectly. ChatGPT search has its own crawler, OAI-SearchBot, and also uses third-party search providers. IndexNow gets your changes into Bing quickly, which helps wherever Bing’s results are used, including Microsoft Copilot.

### How long does IndexNow take to index a page?

IndexNow only notifies search engines. Each engine decides when, and whether, to crawl and index the page, so there is no fixed time. The plugin’s job ends when the submission shows **OK / Accepted**.

### Do I need an IndexNow API key?

No. The plugin creates the key and serves the key file for you. You do not need an account or a Bing Webmaster Tools setup to use it.

### What does “Forbidden” mean in IndexNow?

The search engine could not read your key file. Open the key file link in the IndexNow panel. If it does not load, allow `/<key>.txt` in your firewall, CDN or security plugin.
